Barbara Edwards Contemporary is pleased to present a solo exhibition by artist Katie Bond Pretti. The exhibition features recent paintings and works on paper that see the artist re-articulate the line between abstraction and figuration. Exploring synesthetic translations of the otherworldly and unknown, her works draw inspiration from personal vision quests and sensations of being under surveillance––varied experiences that, collectively, chart common themes of sight and the unseen. In Pretti’s work, instinct and emotion bridge the gap between what we can know and what is beyond our perception, echoed by the process of gradually intuiting recognizable forms in her dynamic traces of oil pastel and graphite.

A graduate of OCAD University, Pretti has held studios in Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, and Brooklyn, and has been artist-in-residence at COME (Buenos Aires), Ctrllab (Montreal), The White House (Toronto), and Spark Box Studios (Picton, Ontario). Her book of drawings, Sonority of Words, was launched in Toronto by Art Metropole and featured at the 2007 NYC Art Book Fair. The book is in the collection of the Library and Archives of the National Gallery of Canada.

Pretti’s works are featured in the collections of SoHo House, TD Canada Trust, and Femmarte. She has been profiled in publications such as Carte Blanche Volume 2: Painting, ArtSync, ArtSlant, Magenta Magazine Online, Elle Canada, Fashion Magazine, Canadian House and Home, and Inside Entertainment.
